The mission of Cowboy Cat Ranch is to improve the quality of life of cats.
We do this by i) promoting environmental enrichment, and ii) doing scientific research, without hurting any animals.
We need money for expensive sample analyses, to purchase equipment, materials, and to cover general expenses.

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, meaning your donation is tax-deductible.
We are committed to publishing the results from our studies Open Access, meaning everybody can read our publications for free. To do this, we (sadly) must pay the publisher of the academic journal what is called an article processing charge (APC). These APCs range from $1,000 to $12,000 for each publication, depending on the journal.
In addition to committing to publishing Open Access, we are also committed to exclusively publish in journals from not-for-profit academic publishers, where the APCs are not as excessive.
Waivers are an option, but often not for scientists in the USA. Partial waivers are sometimes possible, but even with a 50% discount we still need hundreds or thousands of dollars just to make our study results available to cat owners and veterinary professionals for free.
Pumpkin doesn't care about scientific publications, but she is happy everyone can read about the research that's helping cats be happier and healther, for free!
